-

-
Elaborate appropriate teaching and managing tools.
3
Promote exclusive breast-feeding and LAM.
In areas of poverty, exclusive
breast-feeding has been proved as being the best option both for negative and
positive HIV mothers. So a campaign of promotion for the change of
attitude replacing the usual practice of mixed feeding by an exclusive
breast-feeding for the first six months of life is a very good option in this
type of context. It has also been shown
that this kind of attitude can be best obtained by the setting up an important
support at the level of the population and with each mother, both before and
during the post-partum. With this aim in
view, AFLF proposes to help member’s associations to:
-
Organise information campaign on exclusive breast-feeding.
-
Organise an action plan to support exclusive breast-feeding.
-
Elaborate a strategy to promote behavioural change in this context.
-
Organise wide-ranging information on the advantages of exclusive
breast-feeding, especially in the context of poverty.
-
Promote in the environment a cultural and attitude change from partial
to exclusive breast-feeding.
-
Make the socio-political leaders aware of the interest of such a change
of attitude.
-
Draw up teaching material and appropriate evaluation tools.
-
Draw up an appropriate method for the dual effect of low transmission of
HIV/AIDS and amenorrhea (Lactation of Amenorrhea Method - LAM).
-
Organise structures and an action plan (training and supervision of
educators, management, evaluation) for the setting up
of a functional programme on exclusive breast-feeding.
The youth represent a significant percentage of
the African population. In the present context of the continent the youth are
very vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. .
Furthermore, the wide-spreading HIV/AIDS on the continent has already caused unprecedented
damages. The member associations of AFLF
cannot remain indifferent to this situation. They undertake to get more
generously involved by developing programmes of avoidance and fight against
HIV/AIDS.
Education for life and love, avoidance and
fight against HIV/AIDS
-
Organize during the next two years two training seminars for youth
trainers in each of its linguistic zones (French-speaking, English-speaking, Luso-speaking) each grouping about
sixty participants.
-
Set up, in each linguistic zone, a pilot project for youth.
-
Create technical assistance for the training and evaluation of the
programmes.
-
Support member’s associations to obtain funds for developing these
projects.
-
Help member associations to work in a professional way in the following
activities:
i.
Organisation of seminars for education in life and love.
ii.
Training of trainers for street youth.
iii.
Follow-up and supervision of groups of young people
-
Develop specific and integrated teaching approaches for the prevention
and campaign against HIV/AIDS, aimed at changing the attitude and integrating values
based on solid anthropologic foundations, sustained by programmes (Love
matters, Teen Star, Education for Life ad Youth Alive groups, True Love Waits).
-
Organise an action plan for the training of specialised trainers and the
follow-up and evaluation of programmes of prevention and campaign against
HIV/AIDS in favour of the young people.
-
Develop appropriate work tools in the context of prevention and campaign
against HIV/AIDS and propose concrete actions for young people and with young
people, with
governments and various social groups.
III HIV/AIDS
Given the catastrophic situation in African countries
as regards of the infection and the socio-cultural consequences of HIV/AIDS,
the member associations of AFLF undertake to integrate in their usual
activities, in favour of couples and youth, a specialised branch of prevention
and fight against HIV/AIDS.
With the aim of consolidating performances of
the member associations, the Coordinating Committee has proposed the following
support (to be confirmed by the General Assembly of Johannesburg in April
2004):
1
Creation of a
scientific committee able to play the following role:
-
Prepare for FAAF/AFLF scientific documents for the scientific, medical,
paramedical personnel and financing agencies
-
Initiate scientific works within the association and planning of their
evolution
-
Set up and diffuse the recent scientific results in the various fields
of our activities
-
